*Update* Patch 1.1 Ilum Balance of Valor

With Patch 1.1 hitting today people swarmed to Illum to try out the new changes and continue the previously broken daily quests.  However, with the current faction imbalance in favour of the Empire, the Republic are restricted to their Base, while the Sith free farm.  Bioware has made a post for feedback on Illum and its not pretty.  Read on at your own risk.

With the changes made to Illum people are required to kill opposition players to complete their dailies.  As a result the under populated Republic side are constantly pushed back at their base unable to even leave due to the overwhelming number of Empire players.  Not only this but because the Republic can't leave their base the Empire has control of all points in Illum, which increases the amount of valor they get from kills.  This resulted in people obtaining ridiculous amounts of Valor in a short time.

Many fear that this will increase the gear gap between the Empire and Republic, effectively giving Empire players a gear advantage making PvP for the poor Republic soldiers even harder.

Bioware have created a thread on the forum so that people can provide feedback HERE.  However, many took this opportunity to just vent their frustration in this thread instead of giving feedback.  Just giving you guys a warning on what to expect in this thread.

Some people suggest that they should do a roll back to when the servers came up.  Effectively removing all valor gained for everyone and leveling the playing field.  Others have suggested to close down Illum and prevent players from going there until Bioware can find a solution to this problem.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages but its safe to say this is definitely a big problem that needs resolving.   The longer Bioware wait the worse the community will respond.

Stay tuned to this post as we'll keep you updated with further developments on the situation from BioWare.

*UPDATE* – Joveth Gonzalez has just posted a reply on the official forums.  See below.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that we are currently working on an official response to these issues and we will be posting it soon. Please understand that these issues require some time to investigate and we are making sure that we provide you all with the most updated information in our official response.

We understand that some of you may be frustrated, but we ask for your patience on this to give us time to respond with thorough developer input.

Thank you to those of you that have been posting constructively in this thread.

We will have a response shortly.

*UPDATE 2* – Gabe Amatangelo adresses the masses.

Gabe has come forward and stated that they are very aware of the issue with Ilum.  They will be shutting down the taxis that take you the Ilum bases as well as doing their best to push a patch tomorrow morning at 5AM CST.  Here is what Gabe had to say:

Our intended design for Ilum Open World PvP is that players are instantly killed when entering the enemy’s base safe area, just like in Warzones, and that the defending faction can take taxis to other points within the zone. As of Game Update 1.1, this is not working as intended. We have found the issue preventing this from happening under server load and will be publishing an Emergency Patch to address the issue. We’re aiming to have this patch published early tomorrow morning (January 19th, 5 AM US CST).

In addition to these changes, we’ll be reducing the population cap on Ilum. This should help increase performance by requiring your client to render fewer characters on-screen at once.

Regarding Valor gains, with the 1.1 update, players now receive a base reward of 20 Valor per unique enemy player defeated in a short time, and this base reward is modified by the number of objectives that the player’s faction owns. The gains are rate limited per player killed, encouraging players to attack unique players, not to pursue vendettas. The Valor gains players can see over time will vary greatly depending on the activity level in the zone. This is expected.

One other thing to note was the addition of a quote in gabes post from Joveth Gonzalez:

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to be clear and let you all know that we’re definitely aware of individuals who took extreme advantage of this situation and we will be carefully evaluating and taking action as necessary.
