So… As anyone who even remotely follows the SWTOR News as much as I do, you would know that Patch 2.4: The Dread War was slated to go LIVE on October 1st, 2013. I’ve been looking forward to 2.4 for quite some time, as it brings with it PvP Arenas, new gear, 2 new operations, new daily areas, and a slew of other random things. New content is always fun to experience, and as an end-game raider I love the gearing/min-maxing game, and I’ve been doing a LOT more PvP lately on my Operative healer, so I’ve been saving all of her commendations to be able to finally dump my PvE gear and buy a full set of Conqueror.
Finally, the wait was over…. Monday was dripping with anticipation waiting for Patch Notes to get posted.
But lo and behold, whilst waiting with bated breath for those wonderful Patch notes, the unthinkable happened: Bioware Broke The Game.
I logged onto the official forums to check on the patch notes status, and this is what I was greeted with:
Apparently….. What happened, was that mid-day Bioware accidentally live-applied Patch 2.4 to the servers. When that happened, it kicked everyone off their servers, and when they went to log back in, immediately started downloading the 2.4 patch. However, this was entirely unintended, and was quite quickly rectified. HOWEVER, that meant that anyone that had already started the download/patch, was effectively locked out of the game until the full patch went live. The forums really went berserk at this point…
At that point, the immediate crisis was over, however there were still a LOT of players who were affected by this issue, and were effectively locked out of the game on Monday night. I am sure in the grand scheme of things, that’s not an earth-shattering problem, but only someone who wasn’t affected by it would say that.
That brings us to TODAY! It’s Patch Day! HOOORAY 2.4 and loads of new content!
Maintenance appeared to have gone off without a hitch, and everyone started downloading the new patch and get ready to hit the new content with zeal. The PvPers starting queue’ing for arenas, the progression guilds started working on Dread Fortress…..
And then the bugs started rolling in.
Dread Palace is UNCLEARABLE:
(For anyone who doesn’t know, this was an identified bug almost TWO MONTHS ago on the PTS, and somehow, it never got addressed and went LIVE this way.)
Incorrect Skill Animations:
GTN Preview is Broken:
Smuggler Conqueror Professional Gear is MISSING:
The “Whatup” emote that was ‘fixed’ in the patch notes? Nope. Not fixed:
Lastly (for now) – Complaints because the PvE/PvP gear on the PTS was listed as “Placeholders” and went Live without change, and there is anger… much nerdrage.
To be perfectly honest… I’m still really looking forward to getting home tonight, spending some time with my kids, and getting into SWTOR to check out all the new content after they go to bed. I’ve been anticipating this patch for weeks now, and I still have a good bit of my previous anticipatory joy. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t diminished a bit, if not ONLY for the fact, that I know that the 16-man raid my guild has planned for this evening, to go through Dread Fortress, is doomed to fail because we can’t clear it due to bugs.
Let’s hope that the devs at Bioware are able to quickly and effectively resolve these issues, for the sake of the game and the playerbase.
UPDATE: October 2nd, 2013
And sadly, the list of bugs from Patch 2.4 is getting longer. I’m actually starting to feel bad for the Bioware devs…. They are people too, and I’d be willing to bet they are working some seriously long hours away from their families to keep the playerbase from losing it’s youknowhat.
People still having issues from the “accidental patch”
The Oricon Operations Story is bugged, and is not progressing:
PvP commendations for matches have been substantially reduced, some people are even seeing ZERO coms for losses.
Qyzen is a Chatty Cathy:
Even the Patch Notes Heading was wrong /facepalm:
Reputation weapons missing from vendors:
Isotope-5 is missing from all vendors:
