Stats and What They Do! One thing that always puzzled me when looking at information people have gotten from their hands-on time with Star Wars: The Old Republic was that no one had ever bothered to look at what stats did. More importantly, no one ever looked to analyze what those stats might mean. Call it the min/maxxer in me, but this is very important, so I decided to do it myself.
PAX Prime Hands-on Q & A I am sure all of you have enjoyed our PAX coverage so far and part of that is our upcoming podcast. On the next show we are going to have a question and answer session about everything we experienced at PAX. Read on for more details.
Soulibon's Sith Warrior Preview Well everybody this article is going to be my first official article that I am writing as a member of the Torocast news team. So let me first start off with saying, "Hi!" The name is Quinn or a lot of you may know me as Soulibon on the forums. So it just made sense to make my pen name Quinn "Soulibon" just so I won't confuse any of you. My job here at Torocast will be a simple...

I’ll start this with my apologies on the late update on the news, our site was under a few issues on the back end which prevented new material from being posted properly…but it’s all fixed now. So, the news! The TOROcast team has stated this as a joke many, many, MANY times throughout our forum threads, podcasts and news: Space is OFFICIALLY confirmed. In addition, we have a fan Friday filled with art and the first chapter of Fatal Alliance: The first Star Wars: The Old Republic based book to be released as of yet! Read on for more.

“First, thank you to all of you who participated in our Comic-Con Reveal mission! While we didn't quite make the numbers, we definitely saw how excited the community is about this and how everyone came together. After all of that, there's no way we could hold back with our special reveal at Comic-Con!

If you’ve been following the news coming out of the
Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ panel at Comic-Con International, you’ve heard the announcement that we will indeed have Space Combat as part of the TOR experience! But what does that mean? Space combat is an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat. In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various “hot spots” on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars™ space battles.

To learn more, pick up the October 2010 edition of
PC Gamer which hits newsstands starting August 17th for screenshots and an exclusive interview or check back with us in the weeks to come…”

Though we personally don’t have any specific information on Space aside from there being some form of combat (not yet explained), and customizable ships (again, not explained as toward whether that’s inside or outside)…it can be said that we’ll be controlling our ships! That much is great, no? Also, the above image is the cover for next month’s PC Gamer magazine, to be released in stores August 17th. Personally, I subscribed today because of this and their great podcast, but I’d at least advise heading to the store to see what information they have for us in regards to today’s release. I’ll be covering it, myself.

Fatal Alliance: Chapter 1

“SHIGAR KONSHI FOLLOWED the sound of blasterfire through Coruscant’s old districts. He never stumbled, never slipped, never lost his way, even through lanes that were narrow and crowded with years of detritus that had settled slowly from the levels above. Cables and signs swayed overhead, hanging so low in places that Shigar was forced to duck beneath them. Tall and slender, with one blue chevron on each cheek, the Jedi apprentice moved with grace and surety surprising for his eighteen years.

At the core of his being, however, he seethed. Master Nikil Nobil’s decision had cut no less deeply for being delivered by hologram from the other side of the galaxy.

“The High Council finds Shigar Konshi unready for Jedi trials.”

The decision had shocked him, but Shigar knew better than to speak. The last thing he wanted to do was convey the shame and resentment he felt in front of the Council.”

If you haven’t purchased the book yet, and are worried about it’s quality for some strange reason…I suggest you take a gander at this free reading, and decide for yourself if you’d like to move on or just let it be for a while. Think of it as a trial (not to be confused with a beta) for the book.

Fan Friday

Lastly, we’re brought this month’s Fan Friday, filled with what I actually think is really good art! I highly advise you take a look for yourself, as it’s worth the 10 seconds. Along with the art, we received an updated Fansite Kit, new Avatars (as expected), and also a concept image for the Cathar (a feline-humanoid race, think Thunder Cats).

“The Cathar are among the many species you may come across in your travels through the galaxy. They are known for being strong, effective fighters, and are considered unique for their feline features and personality attributes.”

The description  leads me to believe that this is just going to be another NPC race, though I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a playable. They merely state that you’ll come across them, but that may indicate their planet is available for exploration, as well. Only time will tell.
